TORRANCE, Calif.-- Over the years residential jobsite trends have changed, demanding smaller, lightweight machines with the ability to maneuver through yard gates and tight spaces, and give operators the performance needed to get the job done in an efficient and economical manner. “Kubota is able to produce an ultra-compact excavator that meets all market demands, regardless of change, because it controls every aspect of that product from design to manufacturing to service to parts. Features such as Two Pattern Selection System (TPSS) and foldable ROPS are examples of features that help operators do their job better in the ever-changing marketplace,” explains Keith Rohrbacker, Construction Equipment Product Manager.

Powered by a Kubota liquid-cooled, three-cylinder diesel engine rated at 10.2 hp, the operational performance has been increased producing a wider working range for maximum productivity. With an operating weight of 2,200 lbs., the K008-3 can operate on sensitive surfaces without damaging the ground, keeping optimum mobility. The maximum digging height is 9’5” and the maximum dumping height is 6’8”. Despite this machine’s exceptionally compact size, its maximum digging depth is rated at 5’8”, maximum reach at ground level is 9’11” and it has a bucket breakout force of 2,200 lbs. Unlike many of its competitors, the K008-3 comes standard with a Two Pattern Selection System (TPSS), allowing the operators to select either ISO or SAE operating patterns.

The K008-3 is equipped with a two-speed travel system that allows the operator to switch between high and low speeds for faster travel in-between jobsites. Simultaneous operation between the boom and house swing is made easy with a foot pedal operation, especially helpful when digging along a wall. By adding double-flanged lower track rollers, stability has been increased, reducing bouncing, thus reducing operator fatigue.

The K008-3 is equipped with an adjustable width track frame and blade allowing this machine to smoothly maneuver in narrow openings. The track and blade can easily adjust from 2’10” to 2’4” with no tools required. All front working group hydraulic hoses have been re-positioned inside the boom for maximum protection. Attaching and detaching buckets is easy with quick release bucket pins. The operator can switch attachments without the use of tools. Trenching near walls is more productive with a boom swing of 55° to the left and 60° to the right.

Regardless of work conditions, operators will be comfortable sitting in the integrally molded seat. The re-designed layout of the engine components results in more spacious legroom and increases the deck length by 4.2”. A toolbox is conveniently placed beneath the operator’s seat for easy access to operator’s manual and tools. A standard foldable ROPS protects the operator and allows access through doorways, under leaves and tree branches or other obstacles. Also standard is a seatbelt.

Maintenance is made easy with a fully open hood and the engine components and radiator have been re-arranged for easier access. Also, all lubrication points for front attachments are located on the right side, making routine lubrication more efficient.
