New Kubota ZD-300 Series Zero-Turn Mowers Engineered to Deliver Commercial Power, Durability and Performance

TORRANCE, Calif., January 19, 2007 Kubota Tractor Corporation (KTC) introduces a new ZD-300 series of zero-turn commercial mowers including five different models, all featuring powerful Kubota diesel engines. The ZD-300 series is engineered to deliver increased power, durability and performance, enabling both commercial operators and residential users to obtain a manicured lawn even in the toughest terrain.

The new models feature state-of-the-art, energy-efficient Kubota diesel engines: the 21-hp ZD321; the 26-hp ZD326; and the ZD331 with 31 hp. These engines are designed to produce higher torque to aggressively take on heavy mowing jobs for extended periods. They use as much as 30 percent less fuel than gasoline engines; have fewer emissions; and operate more quietly. Plus, each model features dual fuel tanks to total 11.9 gallons of fuel capacity, which means fewer stops for refueling.

The ZD321, ZD326 and ZD331 zero-turn mowers also have high-capacity transmission systems, deep mower decks, ultra-comfortable operating area, and exceptional ease of operation and maintenance.

“Operators will appreciate the proven tractor technology Kubota has built into this new ZD series,” says Tamara Youdbulis, turf product manager at KTC. “These models are loaded with features to make the turf professional’s job easier and more efficient, including the new Kubota-made HST transmission system for durability and productivity.”

New hydrostatic transmission delivers reliable power
With 120 percent more pump displacement capacity and a 30 percent increase in hydraulic-clutch transfer capacity, Kubota’s powerful integral-type hydrostatic transmission (HST) optimizes performance to assure outstanding mower performance and productivity. The independently functioning HST units permit individual control of the rear wheels during turns, and their enlarged capacity provides power to spare, even when mowing on slopes. The HST system is made of high-strength components, such as a copper wear plate on the sliding surface of the cylinder block; stronger rear axle and external gear charge pump to provide exceptional durability. In addition, the shaft drive provides a direct transfer of power every time. With fewer belts and pulleys—only just those on the mower deck—maintenance is reduced, as well. For safety, the PTO clutch is equipped with an internal brake to stop mower blades quickly after disengagement.

Deeper mower decks for precise results on rugged terrain
For superior cutting performance, even at faster speeds and in tall, wet grass, the deeper PRO Commercial, mower deck on the ZD-300 series uses a flat design and new baffling system for improved discharge of clippings. To meet the needs of various jobs, three deck sizes are available. The 72- and 60-inch decks are an extra-deep 6.5 inches, and the 54-inch deck is 6 inches deep. The discharge chute is 27 percent wider to disperse clippings more evenly and the front axle is adjustable to rigid or oscillating with only two pins.

Hands-free hydraulic deck lift pedals are right in front of the operator for easy access and quick response, allowing the deck to be elevated easily with the touch of a pedal. Cutting height can be adjusted from 1 inch to 5 inches, in ¼-inch increments, with the simple twist of a dial. To prevent unsightly turf damage, the 72- and 60-inch mower decks are equipped with independently functional anti-scalp rollers that rotate a full 360 degrees. The new baffle design, in conjunction with deeper deck design, improves air flow—cutting the grass quickly and discharging it through the wider discharge chute, resulting in a beautiful finish.

Ergonomic design provides operator convenience and comfort
For greater operator comfort, Kubota engineered the ZD-300 series with premium standard features, including a full-flat operator platform for more leg room. There’s also a deluxe, high-back suspension seat with four adjustable controls, which provides a custom fit for each operator and prevents fatigue. The new ergonomically angled control panel provides an improved view and easier access to speed controls, fuel and oil gauges, the all-new ¼” cutting-height adjustment dial and locking PTO lever.

To ensure greater efficiency and safety, the parking break is foot-operated and conveniently placed directly in front of the operator on the angled footboard to allow your hands to remain on the speed-control levers.

                                                          Easy to maintain
The ZD-300 series mowers come with several innovative design features to reduce downtime. For routine maintenance, Kubota’s unique two-pin, tilt-up lift feature allows the front of the mower to be raised without removing the mid-mount mower, and includes locks for the front tires to ensure safety. Flat-free front caster tires are standard on the ZD326 and ZD331 models, reducing downtime to change flat tires.

The new maintenance hatch on the full-flat platform provides easy access to the upper mower, gear box and universal-joint parts, and includes a handy built-in storage pocket. The 20 percent larger radiator with integrated radiator screen; the dual-element air cleaner and air cleaner indicator that lets you know when the air cleaner needs to be serviced; and the engine-coolant alert, are practical features to help keep the mower running smoothly.

                                                    ZD-300-series options
Kubota offers several accessories and options for the ZD-300-series, such as a new mulching system. A Kubota unique baffle plate has been added to the closed-system design to optimize airflow and reduce clumping under the deck. The mulching blades are forged from high-quality steel to hold their razor-like edges longer and provide an extra-fine cut. Other options include a large 12.2-bushel grass catcher; work lights mounted on the ROPS for safe driving and increased visibility on the worksite; and a striping kit for a professional finish.

“The new ZD-300 series zero-turn mowers deliver the performance and high quality demanded by commercial operators,” says Youdbulis.

Kubota offers a full line of premium-quality gas- and diesel-powered mowers, which are engineered to meet the wide-ranging expectations of residential and commercial operators. ZD-300 Series zero-turn mowers feature PRO Commercial heavy-duty decks that give professional results, while F-series front-mount mowers offer four-wheel-drive traction and many implement options for year-round use. The G-series is an ideal garden tractor and the GR-series are compact, heavy-duty riding mowers with Kubota’s unique Glide Steer technology; sharp turning power and all-wheel drive traction. Kubota’s T-series includes hydrostatic transmission and choice of engines, plus many implements, making them ideal for homeowners.
