Petrochemicals & Petroleum Refining

In the 1950s, Kubota began manufacturing and selling heat-resistant cast alloy reformer tubes for hydrogen production at petroleum refining plants. For over the ensuing 60 years, the company has supplied heat-resistant cast alloy products to be used in extreme environments under high temperatures and pressures in heating furnaces or other facilities at petrochemical plants and petroleum refining plants, in countries and regions around the world.

Kubota's Pursuit

Many of the petrochemical products which support our lifestyles are made from hydrocarbons such as petroleum and natural gas. Ethylene and propylene, the raw materials of plastics, are produced by cracking hydrocarbons at high temperatures. Industrial hydrogen produced by reforming hydrocarbons under high temperature and pressure is used in such processes as petroleum refining (desulfurization) and synthesis of ammonia in fertilizer plants.

Our endeavors are not confined to the conventional type of materials development aimed at extending product life by improving properties such as heat resistance, corrosion resistance, and creep characteristics; we also develop and offer products with advanced features, utilizing our unique technical expertise -- for example, in altering the inside shapes or modifying the inside surfaces of tubes, based on manufacturing and analytical technologies that we have cultivated over many years. Also, utilizing computer simulations, we can propose ways of maximizing product performance.

Related Products

Cracking tubes are used in the manufacturing processes for ethylene and propylene, which are the raw materials of petrochemical products.

MERT is a high-performance cracking tube with "mixing elements" on the inside surface which increases heat transfer efficiency while realizing uniform temperature distribution of the fluids within.

Heat-resistant cast steel reformer tubes are employed in such processes as oil refining, methanol manufacture, and ammonia synthesis.
