  • An “Essentials Innovator for Supporting Life,” Committed to a Prosperous Society and Cycle of Nature

In 2020, our business encountered difficult circumstances due to the economic slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, thanks to support from our customers and other business stakeholders, we have managed to pull through this difficult situation. This year has once again left me acutely aware of the deep-rooted needs and expectations that support Kubota’s business even in the COVID-19 outbreak, and that we provide an essential business that is indispensable to a great number of people.

Our long-term vision GMB2030 and our Mid-Term Business Plan 2025 were launched in 2021.
I feel strongly that environmental issues including climate change and air pollution, natural disasters and pandemics, population and resource problems, as well as global political issues are complexly intertwined, and recognize a sense of danger around the world that feels as though society cannot continue into the future in its current state. GMB2030 was designed with the intention of facing up to the various issues that may arise during the upcoming decade with consideration to what Kubota should do and how it should proceed, and sharing these issues with the entire Kubota Group. Kubota’s ideal role for 2030 was established to be an “'Essentials Innovator for Supporting Life,' Committed to a Prosperous Society and Cycle of Nature.”

In the Mid-Term Business Plan 2025, we have positioned the five years from 2021, as the period for building the foundation for realizing GMB2030, and have constructed a framework for our business activities. In order to respond to environmental changes encompassing the Kubota Group and resolve various business issues, we will carry out work on the following five main themes: Promotion of ESG management, Establishment of the foundation for realizing, GMB2030 that supports the next generation, Expansion of revenue in existing businesses, Improvement of profit margin, and Development of infrastructure that supports sustainable growth. We will also work to promote digital transformation (DX), which is common to all five main themes.

Additionally, we will search for development and business themes with a long-term perspective and prioritize management resources allocation. From selecting themes to establishing a business operation structure, we plan to complete the process within the period of the Mid-Term Business Plan and we aim to secure multiple business prospects that could become drivers of our future growth by 2025. At the same time, we will vigorously pursue profit structure reforms such as achieving steady growth in high-margin fields, establishing a profitable structure, and thoroughly streamlining business operations. As a result, we aim to achieve 2.3 trillion yen in revenue and a 300 billion yen operating profit by 2025.

Long-term global environmental goals common to the SDGs and the Paris Agreement will increasingly require corporate social responsibility as we move forward. In order to continue in our role as a sustainable company, we will, more than ever before, continue to promote ESG-conscious initiatives. As a company whose business activities in the fields of food, water, and the environment engage in reducing environmental impact and resolving social issues, we have defined unique Kubota Group ESG measures that are rooted in our Kubota Global Identity as K-ESG, and we will seek to promote them.

And this year, we have prepared an Environmental Vision to indicate the direction our business will take from an environmental perspective as we aim toward 2050. We will meet the carbon neutrality challenge by 2050 through two approaches: reducing CO2 emissions from our company and our products; and reducing CO2 emissions through the various solutions Kubota provides.

With an eye on the year 2030, the Kubota Group aims to resolve issues related to food, water, and the environment around the world, and will continue to promote further innovation in the spirit of On Your Side, which signifies keeping in close contact with our customers, ascertaining the issues they face, and delivering good outcomes for their businesses. As the entire Kubota Group unites together and works as a One Kubota team, I sincerely hope that you will grant us your continued support.
