December 22, 2025

Kubota Corporation

Kubota Corporation (Head Office: Naniwa-ku, Osaka, Japan; President and Representative Director: Yuichi Kitao; hereinafter "Kubota") has established a marketing office in New York City to promote the sales of a Plant Factory with Artificial Lighting (PFAL).The new office, KUAMO (Kubota Urban Agriculture Marketing Office), has been equipped with a closed-type cultivation system developed by PLANTX Corp. (Head Office: Shinonome, Koto-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Kosuke Yamada; hereinafter “PLANTX”), a company in which Kubota holds an equity interest. KUAMO will utilize the PLANTX closed-type cultivation system to conduct essential marketing activities, including identifying potential customers and partners for Kubota’s plant factory business in the United States.

1.Background and objectives

  • In the United States, major production areas for fruits and vegetables are concentrated on the West Coast, while population centers with strong consumer demand are located on the East Coast. The geographic separation leads to challenges such as reduced freshness during transportation, higher logistics costs, and increased greenhouse gas emissions. The West Coast production regions face growing risks to stable agricultural production due to climate change‑related droughts, severe water shortages associated with population growth, and increasing difficulty in securing farm labor. These factors threaten- the sustainable and reliable supply of vegetables and other produce in the United States.
  • Because PFAL enables stable, year-round production regardless of climate, and achieves high yields even on limited urban land, it is garnering significant attention. Notably, the PLANTX system uses a proprietary method to tightly control the environment within small, sealed compartments, resulting in a more stable crop quality and higher productivity than conventional PFAL methods.
  • In response, Kubota has established KUAMO to contribute to stable and efficient food production in the United States. KUAMO, equipped with the PLANTX cultivation system, will collaborate with PLANTX to produce crops for local trials and advance marketing activities for PFAL.
