Kubota Corporation
Kubota Corporation (Head Office: Kita-ku, Osaka, Japan; President and Representative Director, CEO: Shingo Hanada; hereinafter “Kubota”) began selling the SH-K1, its first-ever sugarcane harvester, in Thailand in October 2026 through its Thai subsidiary, Siam Kubota Corporation Co., Ltd.
1.Background and Objectives
- Sugarcane is a major agricultural crop in Thailand, alongside rice and cassava. Conventionally, sugarcane has been harvested manually for the most part, with fields burned before harvesting to remove the leaves and make the work easier. However, as labor shortages have been caused by the aging of the farming population and a decline in the number of young people entering agriculture, regulations have become increasingly stringent to aim to address air pollution due to PM2.5 emissions from field burning. Consequently, the demand for mechanization has grown to enable efficient harvesting without burning fields.
- The newly launched SH-K1, equipped with a 173-horsepower engine, offers high-performance harvesting despite its compact size, which makes it well suited for small- to medium-sized fields. The model is designed with the operator’s needs in mind and features an automatic cutting height control system that maintains a consistent cutting height without damaging the sugarcane stubble. The spacious operator’s cab and multifunctional controls integrated into a single lever also ensure comfort and ease of operation.
- With the launch of this model, the Kubota Group now offers the Thai market a fully mechanized system covering the entire sugarcane cultivation process, from planting through to harvesting. Moving forward, Kubota will continue expanding its field crop business in Thailand.
