July 5, 2013

Kubota Corporation (Head Office: Naniwa-ku, Osaka, Japan, Chairman, President & CEO: Yasuo Masumoto, hereinafter "Kubota") has announced plans to establish a new company in Singapore that specializes in the import and milling of Japanese rice with the Kubota's latest rice milling facilities.
Like Kubota Rice Industry (H.K.) CO., Ltd., which has been in operation since April 2012, the new company will import brown rice from Japan and mill it locally to provide fresh and delicious Japanese rice in Singapore.
By expanding the business of importing, milling, and selling Japanese rice overseas, the company will help increase Japan's agricultural exports, which is a major challenge for Japanese agriculture.

2. Background

Rice consumption continues to decrease in Japan due to diversification of diet, population decline, and aging population combined with declining birthrate. Japanese farmers have various issues including a shortage of successors, and the Japanese agriculture is under increasingly difficult circumstances.
As a manufacturer of agricultural machinery that has worked and grown together with farmers over the years, we have a desire to contribute to the revitalization of Japanese agriculture. With the objective of supporting Japan's rice exports, Kubota established a company in Hong Kong last year that imports, mills, and sells Japanese rice.
Leveraging its expertise, Kubota will now develop rice milling and distribution business in Singapore, the second largest importer of Japanese rice after Hong Kong. Importing brown rice from Japan and milling it locally, the company strives to help increase the demand for Japanese rice. Kubota continues to work with Japanese rice producers and promotes Japan's rice exports.
