Kubota Myanmar Co., Ltd., an agricultural machinery sales / services company established in Myanmar, held its Grand Opening Ceremony — A full-scale starting to further expand the agricultural machinery business

February 8, 2017

Kubota Corporation (Head Office: Naniwa-ku, Osaka-shi, Japan, President and Representative Director: Masatoshi Kimata; hereinafter “Kubota”) held Grand Opening Ceremony of Kubota Myanmar Co., Ltd, an agricultural machinery sales / services company in Myanmar (Ratio of shareholders’ equity: Kubota 80%, SIAM KUBOTA Corporation Co., Ltd. 20%), on February 3, 2017.

The ceremony was held for about 200 people in total, with officials from the Myanmar government, the Japanese government, and Thilawa Special Economic Zone Management Committee, suppliers and others.

Masatoshi Kimata, President and Representative Director of Kubota who attended the ceremony, said “We are sure that business activities of KMCL will support and contribute for further economic development and agricultural mechanization in Myanmar, with our accumulated know-how and experiences as a comprehensive farm machinery manufacturer.”

1. Background of the establishment of KMCL and the objective

  • The total population and rice production volume of Myanmar are almost the same as those of Thailand; however, most of the farm work relies on human power and work cattle. In the future, mechanization of farm work will make progress.
  • Kubota started exporting agricultural machinery (power tillers) to Myanmar in 1953. From 2011, SIAM KUBOTA Corporation Co., Ltd. (Ratio of shareholders’ equity: Kubota 60%, Cementhai Holding Co., Ltd. 40%) has been selling farm machineries through distributors in Myanmar. In order to further expand our business, we applied for the establishment of a sales / services company in Myanmar and obtained the approval from Thilawa Special Economic Zone Management Committee on September 8, 2015.
  • By having our sales / services company to carry out the business activities directly in Myanmar, we can take advantage of our sales know-how accumulated in other areas such as Japan and Asian countries. We will reflect such experiences on this new company and further expand the machinery business by strengthening its dealer network and service systems.
