Kubota develops large-displacement diesel engine — Entering into the 300hp segment —

March 2, 2020

KUBOTA Corporation (Head Office: Naniwa-ku, Osaka, Japan; President and Representative Director: Yuichi Kitao; hereinafter, “Kubota”) announced that it has started the development of the new large displacement industrial diesel engine S7509, which will comply to EU Stage V regulations. It will be demonstrated as a reference exhibit, at CONEXPO CON/AGG on March 10-14, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Kubota has taken measures to comply with the various needs from construction and industrial manufactures, and holds a top share of the global market for industrial engines of up to 100hp*1. In addition to the introduction of V5009 which development was announced in 2017, Kubota will enforce and expand the line up to becoming the world No.1 industrial engine manufacturer in the up to 300hp segment.

    • 1 An internal investigation
  • New Large Displacement Industrial Diesel Engine “S7509 (displacement 7.5L)”

1.Background

  • To meet the latest emissions regulations governing agricultural and construction machinery in the United States, Europe, and Japan, Kubota made an early start on developing compliant engines, taking advantage of the advanced technological strengths that it had built up over many years as a manufacturer of compact diesel and gasoline engines for industrial applications. Kubota has obtained relevant certifications in Europe, North America (EPA*2, CARB*3), and Japan, as well as in such countries as China, India, and Brazil, and has introduced products into those markets.
  • In line with increasing international consciousness of the need to preserve the natural environment, emission standards for engines have become more stringent in many countries. All manufacturers of construction and industrial machinery are now required to build their machines with engines that comply with the latest regulations and to take measures such as adoption of after-treatment devices.
  • The New product S7509 will be ready to meet emission EU Stage V regulation that started from 2019 / 2020 which limits particulate numbers.
  • 2 EPA (Environmental Protection Agency): Agency of the United States federal government established to protect human health and the natural environment.
  • 3 CARB (California Air Resources Board): Agency established by the state government of California, U.S.A. to protect the state’s environment against air pollution effects.

Accelerate New Innovations

Kubota will also work with Microsoft to launch a new AI Machine Learning Lab focused on accelerating innovations. The Lab will be used to train new developers building AI solutions, and Kubota will explore the application of AI in its business operations and for developing new services for customers in areas such as agriculture, water system infrastructure and the environment. Microsoft will leverage its extensive knowledge and advanced technologies available within Azure Machine Learning to support Kubota’s AI initiatives.

Furthermore, the companies will also explore innovative projects for a more sustainable future that utilize technology based on Kubota’s and Microsoft’s sustainability initiatives.

2.Outline and Features of S7509 engine

1.High Performance with Low Fuel Consumption

Not only optimizing the combustion for the high output but achieving the top level of low fuel consumption compared to other engine in the same power range.

2.Compact design

Displacement Cylinder Output After Treatment
7.5L 6 228.4kw SCR*4+DPF*5
  • 4 SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction):Technology used to clean nitrogen oxides (NOx) from exhaust emissions discharged from diesel engines.
  • 5 DPF(Diesel Particulate Filter): Exhaust after-treatment device (filter) designed to capture diesel particulate matter from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine, which is necessary technology to comply with the most stringent requirement, EU Stage V regulation.

3.Flexibility of Engineering Design and easy maintenance

S7509 has two power take off (PTO) options which provides flexibility in the machine side engineering design and features for the easy maintenance for the users.

3.Mass Production

Mass production is set to begin in 2023
