Kubota Introduces Electric Mini Excavator in Europe

December 18, 2023
KUBOTA Corporation

Kubota Corporation (Head Office: Naniwa-ku, Osaka, Japan; president and representative director: Yuichi Kitao; hereinafter “Kubota”) will launch the KX038-4e electric mini excavator onto the European market in the spring of 2024. By adding an electric model to its lineup of mini excavators that are widely used for construction work in urban areas, Kubota will contribute to achieving carbon neutrality in construction work.

1. Development Background and Product Features

  • Kubota advocates carbon neutrality by 2050 in the Environmental Vision that it announced in 2021. As an initiative to reduce CO2 product emission, Kubota will advance development of electric, hybrid, fuel-cell, and other drives in an effort to decarbonize power sources.
  • Since entering the European mini excavator market in 1978, Kubota has expanded mini excavator business thanks to the excavator’s high operability and durability. Today, Europe is one of its most important markets, and where Kubota has held the No. 1 market share* for more than 20 years.
  • Europe is on the forefront of environmental responsibility, and a growing need for products with high environmental performance has become apparent. In response, Kubota decided to develop and market its first electric mini excavator, the KX038-4e.
  • In general, it is difficult to ensure operating time in developing electrically powered construction equipment. This model has an eco-mode, which adjusts the motor speed, and other energy-saving features, to ensure four hours of continuous operation. This makes it possible to perform a day's worth of construction work without having to recharge the battery in the middle of the day, which is one of the main applications of the mini excavator, such as laying pipes in urban areas.
  • This model is supplied to end users on a rental basis through a local distributor. With this model Kubota will continue to expand its line of environmentally friendly products while deepening its understanding of the challenges faced when using these products.
