Note This valve is mainly used for a pipeline of power plants.
The power plants usually use seawater for the cooling, so the valve is installed in a seawater pipeline.
Therefore the superior corrosion resistance is required because the inner surface of the valve is exposed to seawater. This valve body and disc are covered by rubber of about 5mm in thickness for the corrosion resistance.
The disc is designed concentric type, and the extremely precise machining is required at the stem seal part in order to protect the stem from corrosion by invaded seawater for long term service.
Additionally, the face to face dimension between flanges is much shorter than the other valves, and therefore, the valve weight is lightened for its easier installation.

Note Model BS-A butterfly valves employ off-centered discs, and yet control flow in both directions with excellent shutoff even under high pressures. Kubota’s many years of valve expertise, zeal for refining the functions, and continuous research are the fruits of making available valves of great durability.
Model BS-AZ is a double offset type, conforming to the BS EN 593, Class 16 PN.

Note This valve composed of body, resilient wedge, bonnet, stem, stem nut, bushing, cap and so on.
It controls to stop and pass the water flow in pipelines by moving up and down the wedge.
This body, bonnet and cap are casted by ductile iron. Both their internal and external surfaces are coated with fusion bonded epoxy coating.
The wedge is fully covered with EPDM rubber. It’s replaceable with leaving the valve body in pipelines.

There are two types of earthquake resistant joint valve. One is double socket type, and the other is socket and spigot type.

Note This butterfly valve has an earthquake resistance joint whose application has been rapidly increased in Japanese market nowadays.
An earthquake can put very high pull or bending load to the joint so that a bolting of a normal flange might be broken.
However, this joint can hold up even in such a situation.
This joint structure is standardized by JWWA, and the requirements are very severe.
For example, one of the earthquake resistant tests is to put a pull force at three times kilo-newton of the nominal diameter number.
It means that the pull force for 400mm valves is 1,200kN. We have developed this valve, with utilizing both FEM analysis and repeated experiments, so that the valve body is designed at the optimum condition.

Note We have added two functions and solved 2 customer’s issues such as restriction of burial condition and protection of equipment.
The ported disc provides a built in by-pass function to allow an effective pre-fill in pipeline, with eliminating a traditional by-pass line.
Upon closing the valve, the ported disc substantially reduces surge pressure and assists to protect the downstream pipe and equipment.

Note In order to alleviate the damage to pipelines from cavitation, the unique-shaped Disc has been developed.
The toothed surface of the disc located on disc tail disperses the wake flow and divides the vortexes raised around the disc. Thereby, this valve reduces the cavitation coefficient by 50% compared to a standard Butterfly Valve.

And also, the form of this disc contributes to lower noise because the bubbles generated from the disc are fractionized, and high cavitation is reduced at the downstream.

Note This valve has “Two In One” structure, butterfly valve and flange adaptor. The advantage of the valve is it can adjust the clearance between the valve and adjoining pipe.
The flange adaptor is movable and enables adjustment of distance.
Adjustable range is around 30mm for the minimum size and 50mm for the maximum size of this valve.
Furthermore, this valve is flexible for jointing, in case the mating pipes have some minor deviations in dimensions.

Note This valve shuts off automatically when an emergency signal, such as seismic motion or irregular velocity of the flow, is received.
When an earthquake occurs, a flow velocity in a pipeline is drastically changed. Water in a tank can be rapidly drained when the velocity increases. This valve is installed at outlet of the tanks and prevents the water shortage.
The mechanism of the automatic shut off function is that the stem, which is set a weight on its lever, is rotated 90 degree by the weight and the disc can move to close position. Normally, the weight is settled at upper position by the stopper system.
In an emergency situation, the stopper is released and the weight moves by itself. At this time, a damper, which is set on the lever,is worked and makes the weight moving slow.
Therefore, the water hammer is prevented because the valve is slowly closed.
We have two types of the emergency shut off valve, which have different ways to detect an emergency and to release the stopper.
One is signage-type valve which gets an emergency signal from the outer system. The other is an independent- type valve which detects the emergency by itself.

Note The special gate valve is a tight shut-off valve commonly used for high temperature gas lines of propane dehydrogenation (PDH) facilities. This valve is made up of a pair of discs and wide angled inner wedge with a central ball like pivot bearing to reduce the wear of the valve seats, even under high temperature with frequent operational cycles.

Note FCC slide valve is used for fluid catalytic cracking units in petroleum refining plants.
This valve, which needs durability against high temperature and powder (catalyst) flow, has two characteristics.
One is the sliding surfaces are hard-faced with overlaying. And the other is the inner surface has abrasion resistant lining.
To extend valve service life, we have improved lining application and hard-facing technologies.
The internal parts are designed to minimize erosion by catalyst. Also, this valve is precise-controlled by electro-hydraulic actuators.
