Developing a Model Agricultural Areas to Achieve a Better-developed, Sustainable Industry

Siam Kubota Corporation has been supporting the realization of sustainable agriculture through the SIAM KUBOTA Community Enterprise (SKCE) project since it began in 2011 to create model agricultural areas.

Thailand is one of the world's leading agricultural nations. Although Thailand was the world’s third largest rice exporter in 2020, reasons farmer income is unstable include dominant traditional farming methods based on experience, as well as a lack of knowledge and know-how regarding earning a high income from agriculture. Realizing sustainable agriculture, which will enable farmers to earn an adequate and stable income, is one of the issues the nation needs to address.

Siam Kubota Corporation Co., Ltd (SKC), which conducts business in Thailand, launched the SIAM KUBOTA Community Enterprise project in 2011. This project creates model areas for sustainable agriculture.

Thus far, seven model areas have been established in six provinces in Thailand. In these model areas, SKC supports farmers with Kubota Group products and technologies, agricultural and marketing know-how, and smart farming to reduce costs, increase yields, and create added value for agricultural products. For example, implementing the SKC-developed KUBOTA (Agri) Solutions smart farming system and using agricultural machinery and seeding methods suited to the region, increased the rice yield from 556 kg per rai (1 rai=0.16 ha) in the past to 733 kg per rai. These model areas where advanced farming is now practiced also serve as hubs for the spread of know-how to neighboring areas.

In 2022, we promoted initiatives to help farmers generate operating capital and reduce debt. For example, with a focus on horticultural and field crop sales, we conducted digital promotions, such as on Facebook, to increase sales income.

SKC will continue to actively spread Kubota agricultural technologies and know-how through this project to contribute to the realization of sustainable agriculture which will enable farmers to earn an adequate income.
