Establishing Water Infrastructures to Contribute to the Development of Increasingly Impoverished Rural Communities

In India, one of the world's largest agricultural countries, poverty in rural communities is becoming more severe, and as far as water infrastructure in particular is concerned, households in some rural areas lack a safe water supply through pipes. In response to such problems, Kubota Agricultural Machinery India has been repairing wells used for drinking water and installing drinking water purification plants. The company supports safe and secure living circumstances for farmers.

In India, where over 60% of the population is engaged in agriculture, the growing economic disparity between farmers and the wealthy is becoming a problem. Although efforts made by the government and local residents have improved the water infrastructure, it remains insufficient and over 80% of households in rural communities lack a safe water supply through pipes.

The Kubota Group, which contributes to resolving food, water, and environmental issues through its corporate activities, focuses on these agricultural and farmer problems as if they were their own. For the sustainable development of agriculture in India as well as for the safety and security of human life, Kubota Agricultural Machinery India Pvt., Ltd. (KAI) has been supporting the development of rural community water infrastructure in partner with the international service organization Rotary International.

In 2019, we financed and rehabilitated a well (approximately 30 feet in diameter and over 180 feet deep) to access safe water in a rural community in the state of Maharashtra in western India, as well as installing a drinking water purification plant. This has resulted in a sufficient year-round supply of safe drinking water.

In India*, whose population is expected to reach 1.5 billion by 2028, surpassing China as the world's most populous country, in addition to mechanizing and advancing agriculture, it is also essential to support the rural environments that maintain one of the world's largest agricultural countries. As a company living up to the expectations of society, KAI will proactively continue social contribution activities pertaining to food, water, and the environment.
