Engaging in Environmental Conservation Activities to Protect Ecosystems Worldwide
In order to protect natural ecosystems facing crisis in many locations worldwide, Kubota has set "conserving biodiversity" as one of its five basic items for environmental conservation, and the entire group engages in activities that give consideration to conserving biodiversity and protecting the natural environment. Tree planting and releasing juvenile fish are major activities carried out in cooperation with local communities.
- Spain
Kubota España S.A. (KES) in collaboration with Bosques Sostenibles, a socially influential environmental organization, conducted a tree planting initiative near Torremocha del Jarama. Employees and their families participating in this initiative planted trees that will help absorb carbon and promote biodiversity. These trees will enrich the natural environment in the future, improving air quality and serving as wildlife habitats.
This initiative not only contributes to protecting and conserving the natural environment, but also reinforces the company's commitment to sustainability and fosters a sense of teamwork among its employees. In recognition of the achievements of this tree planting initiative and its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, KES has received Carbon Footprint Offset certification.
- Thailand
Kubota Research and Development Asia, our R&D base in Thailand, carried out its second annual “Plant for the Planet, Restoring the Ecosystem” endeavor in June 2024. The endeavor aims to expand green spaces in order to reduce local carbon emissions and to raise awareness among local communities, companies, and employees about protecting natural resources.
The 2024 endeavor took place in Namtok Chet Sao Noi National Park in Saraburi Province, Thailand, where 300 perennial plants were planted, 1,000 tree seeds were sown with wooden slingshots, and 100 kg of fertilizer made from our zero food waste project was donated.
- Cambodia
Environmental conservation activities through tree planting are also being carried out in Cambodia. With promoting the creation of a sustainable environment, long-term ecosystem conservation, and interaction and contribution to the local community as its aims, Kubota Leasing (Cambodia) PLC. donated 400 m2 of shrubbery and turf to the APSARA National Authority, which is responsible for the maintenance and conservation of Angkor Wat in northwestern Cambodia.
- Indonesia
P.T. Kubota Indonesia (PTKI), which manufactures and sells engines in Indonesia, has contributed to the development of Indonesia's agricultural sector through manufacturing agricultural machinery for over 50 years. At the same time, through environmentally friendly manufacturing processes as well as through activities contributing to environmental sustainability, the company contributes to preventing climate change, reducing CO2 emissions, and conserving the environment.
In 2024, as part of its ESG management, PTKI released 102,000 juvenile fish and planted 306 fruit tree saplings at the Jatibarang Reservoir in the city of Semarang in Central Java. With the hope of an enriched nature in the surrounding communities and of an improved region in the future, PTKI will continue to monitor the growth of the released fish and cultivate the fruit tree saplings.
- Japan
Located at the southwestern tip of Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture, Watarase Retarding Basin, the largest retarding basin in Japan, covers an area of 33 km² and has a total storage capacity of 200 million m³. Of its total area, half of the 25 km² covered with vegetation is a reed bed known to be the largest in the country. Recognized as a valuable natural environment, the basin is also home to a wide variety of life, including approximately 1,000 species of plants, 275 species of birds, 1,700 species of insects (both terrestrial and aquatic), and 78 species of fish and shellfish.
Aiming to contribute to the surrounding area, interact with the local community and beautify the environment through Wakaki Water Purification Plant Renewal and Maintenance Project in the city of Oyama, Kubota group participates in the “operation to remove willow and tall goldenrod from Watarase Retarding Basin" organized by the city of Oyama, the town of Nogi, and other concerned organizations and groups. This operation involves removing tall goldenrod threatening to eradicate native plants including endangered species, and willows that hinder the germination and growth of native plants. Kubota group has been participating in this activity since 2023.
Kubota conducts business activities in the areas of food, water, and the environment and depends on various ecosystem services provided by natural capital, including soil, air, water, plants, and animals. We will continue to promote social contribution activities that lead to conserving biodiversity and protecting the natural environment, as well as activities that contribute to the surrounding communities in which we operate around the world.
